North Carolina pay stub requirements
North Carolina's rule is narrower than most — it mandates itemizing deductions rather than the full wage breakdown — but it adds notice duties others lack.
What N.C.G.S. §95-25.13 requires in North Carolina
The North Carolina Wage and Hour Act requires employers to furnish each employee an itemized statement of the deductions made from wages for every pay period. The statute targets deductions specifically, rather than the full gross-to-net breakdown that California or Colorado require.
The same section adds notice duties many states lack: employers must notify employees in writing of the promised wages and the payday at the time of hiring, and must give at least 24 hours' written notice before reducing wages. A reduction cannot be applied retroactively.
Deductions themselves are separately regulated under §95-25.8, which generally requires written authorization from the employee. Verify current requirements with the North Carolina Department of Labor.
Honest, legitimate use only
These templates are for documenting income you actually earned. They are not 'fake stub' tools. We don't guarantee that any lender or landlord will accept a self-prepared document, and we don't recommend submitting one without supporting evidence like a tax return and bank statements.
